Breakfast at Bourg St Maurice

Breakfast at Bourg St Maurice was the best yet since Nice.  Minor chit chat with another Tour and we were off and into a 18km gentle climb.  I took care to keep my HR below 125 so got dropped, but regrouped before the top and all agreed to a six way crossing of the Col De Roselend, however Wayne got confused over what a photo and Col were.  A short decent followed to a beautiful iris blue hydro lake then uphill to a café overlooking lake.  Beautiful fruit tarts and coffee, ice cream for Al and off again up the Col de Pre.

A steep tricky downhill treated us to the AG2R development team smashing up the climb.  About halfway down on a hairpin we all stopped for a farmer with a huge flat-deck and tractor.  After some maneuvering Agnes got Renault Scenic thru but suffered flat back tyre.  We unload the space saver, reload and off again to the beautiful Col de Saisies.

Dave our donkey endowed Hero graciously helped a young attractive Dutch girl fix a front flat; luckily Al continued on or he would have lost his ice cream.  A steady climb for the back markers, the Col hammerfest being won by Wayne.  Ham cheese crepes (we’re in France) and a problem with the waitress, then into a long easy descent.

We got passed by a woman on an electric bike so take wild guess what happened next.  It comes as a bit of a surprise to me that 35kph is actually frickin fast but after the shock had passed  the full compliment resumed normal order looking for a bike shop in the next town.  It was closed!!, so off up a valley for a we treat of a climb in this year’s Crit du Dauphine which was real hot real steep and contested to some degree by everyone but Wayne who was delayed as he need to consume two gels!.

Short descent to St Gervais les Bains to Anges stunning house on a hillside in town where she even placed food out ready go.  Thanks so much Agnes.
